Description

The city of Mayagüez was founded in 1760 by the the name of “Pueblo de Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria”, but because of the frequent use of its inhabitants of the name “en la Rivera de Mayagüez”, today this city is known as Mayagüez, name that means "place of waters". The founder of this town was Don Faustino Martínez de Matos.
