East Coast Basketball Camps The camp is directed by Coach Dan Spainhour, who has been directing camps for more than 18 years. He has received numerous awards during his accomplished coaching career, including three state championships and 14 coach of the year honors. As a high school basketball coach, he has collected over 230 victories by winning nearly 70 percent of his games. He began his career at Bishop McGuinness High School in Winston-Salem, N.C., where he led his teams to four consecutive 20-win seasons. Most recently he coached at West Stokes High School where his teams advanced to postseason play each of his four years. He also coached under current Florida State Coach Leonard Hamilton at the University of Miami. During his time at Miami, Coach Spainhour helped the Hurricanes to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 38 years. Coach Spainhour is considered one of the country's top teachers of basketball fundamentals, having instructed for Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski's camps for 10 years and working camps for top coaches such as Morgan Wootten and John Thompson. He is highly respected in the coaching profession and is the author of two books. He was honored as an ambassador for athletics for the state of North Carolina in 2002.
