For Over 50 years, the trademarked phrase: “Protectively Yours” has been the slogan and the essence of Howalt-McDowell. In a world of uncertainty and impermanence, we have remained a reassuring anchor to many of the area’s most respected and successful companies.Howalt-McDowell Insurance began in 1946 as an additional venture for a loan and real estate operation owned by William D. Howalt and Pierce McDowell. Lester Scherschligt joined the firm in 1957 to develop the insurance department. In 1963 the insurance operation became a separate corporation known as Howalt-McDowell Insurance, Inc. Les Scherschligt and two partners purchased the insurance operation in 1968. Howalt-McDowell proceeded to grow and prosper through internal agency growth. Les’s son, Jeff, assumed presidency of Howalt-McDowell in 1986, and by 1991 the agency had grown internally to employ 28 people. In 1992, the merger/purchase of Kelly-Shaw-Douglas, Inc. was complete, again enlarging the agency. Today, Howalt-McDowell has grown to employ 83 people.We pledge to offer the “Right People.
