Hoyleton Youth and Family Services is a licensed and accredited not-for-profit organization offering assistance to children and families at six locations throughout the Metro-east St. Louis and South-central Illinois areas. Founded as an orphanage 110 years ago, Hoyleton can trace its beginnings back to the former Evangelical and Reformed Church (later to become the United Church of Christ). Responding to the needs of children who were often parentless due to catastrophic economic situations as well as epidemics and related health issues, Hoyleton immediately began focusing on the well being of children and families. Today, Hoyleton's goal is to provide care for individuals and families with emotional, behavioral and other disabling conditions while strengthening and enabling families. This assistance comes in many forms from providing immediate shelter and meeting other needs for a Latino family burned out of their home to helping find a safe and stable living situation for a foster child . In the past year, over 3,200 individuals and family members received assistance. Hoyleton also strives to embrace innovation and has been recognized for its efforts through two national awards. The first award was for the development and testing of an interpersonal violence prevention curriculum that targets youth who are at-risk due to behavior and developmental challenges.
