Description
Then I discovered I could play what I knew on the fiddle. After that I did nothing but eat, sleep and drink fiddling. I loved to listen to the great fiddlers like Mark O'Conner, Kenny Baker and Byron Berline. I started making public performances. My first appearance in public was with some friends in a band we called Heaven's Grass. We played at the Seattle Folk Life Festival in front of 2000 people. Whew! I moved to California and kept playing fiddle contests. I 'retired' from contests after 50 bouts. I won numerous top honors including a blue ribbon at the nation's oldest and largest convention in Galax, Virginia in 1993.
