CUSTOM AXLE SHAFTS Hudlow Axle provides the highest quality differential parts available using the latest manufacturing and metallurgical processes available. Our own axle line contains 1541h steel, the steel of choice for high performance applications. With our axles heat treating process the 1541h steel is approximately is 20-25 percent stronger than 1040 steel used in OEM axle shafts. For extreme high performance use, where twisting torque is important but bending stresses are limited, 4140 or 4340 Chrome-moly alloy steels work well. 4140 Chrome-moly provides approximately 28 percent more strength than 1040 steel, while 4340 Chrome-molly provides approximately 39 percent more strength than 1040.
