Humalfa 's roots began in the mid 1980's when founder Lynn Boomer discovered one of natures secrets. Lynn, then working for Braum's Dairy Farm, and his wife Kay had just built a new house outside of Shattuck, Oklahoma. The couple quickly realized that the soil was primarily sand and clay, lacking the essential microbes for healthy plant development. Lynn knew he needed to add organic matter to the soil to establish his new lawn and flower beds. That fall Lynn found an old alfalfa bale from the farm and spread it over his brown lawn along with some manure from the dairy farm. The following growing season the results were spectacular. The turf was green with excellent moisture retention and plants had hearty blooms! Lynn accidentally discovered a gold mine of microbes and nutrients. Lynn noticed that he was not the only person in the area with this problem, and soon began selling a blend to local residents. As the word got out of the magnificent results, the demand grew for the blend. Soon Lynn realized that he should go into business full time making and selling the special blend in bulk and bagged products. Knowing he needed to do the research and development, Lynn enlisted the services of a few universities in the Oklahoma and Texas area. Eventually, the most effective method of composting the material was developed to retain the microbial activity and provide the greatest benefit to the customer, and Humalfa was born...
