Description
HOPE House is a place where people recovering from mental illness find the support and resources they need to pursue their goals and dreams. The clubhouse program focuses on the abilities and talents of members. Together, members and staff operate the club which is open 5 days a week, 9-5 and evenings and weekends for special events. HOPE House is located in downtown Port Chester, NY and draws members from the entire region. Modeled after Fountain House in NYC, which pioneered the concept and philosophy of this unique approach and has been replicated around the world, HOPE House is also a member of the International Center for Clubhouse Development (ICCD), an organization dedicated to expanding the Clubhouse movement worldwide. HOPE House provides these opportunities: Pre-Vocational Experience. Members gain confidence through involvement in various work units including clerical/computer, food service, maintenance/housekeeping, transportation and administration. Transitional/Supported Employment. Members work gainfully in local businesses in Transitional and Supported Employment Placements. Positions are secured and job training and support are provided. For Transitional Employment Placements, 100% job coverage is guaranteed to the employer. Independent Employment. Members are assisted with preparation of resumes, interviewing skills and job search resources. Peer Case Management Services. HOPE House menbers are trained to provide outreach, advocacy and case management services to persons recovering from mental illness. Education. Members are supported as they pursue basic education, GED and college courses. Tutoring is available and presentations by college representatives are regularly scheduled. Social. Members can meet new friends and develop long lasting relationships through participation in the creative arts, sports, weekend trips, monthly dances and local community events.
