Description

The police badge is a visual symbol to the public of the legal enforcement authority granted to every officer by the State of Texas and by the agency that employs them. The badge of the Humble Police Department is unique. The origin of the current department badge actually began during the early 1990’s with the former Mayor for the City of Humble, Dr. Hayden McKay. Mayor McKay had openly stated that he wished to do “something special” for the police department, but sadly Dr. McKay passed away from this life before he had decided on the “something special” for the police department.

It is an honor and privilege for me to serve as the chief of Police for this great city. My mission is that our police department provides the citizens of Humble with a high quality of community living, which consists of protecting life and property; providing order, tranquility, and public peace; preventing crime and apprehending criminals. In order to complete the above, it is imperative that we hire only the “best of the best” police officers at the Humble Police Department.

The City of Humble had no Chief of Police until as late as 1965 when Harvey Lovings of Dayton, Texas, was accepted by the city council. Lovings took office on July 6th and on July 30th tendered his resignation because he had been made Chief of Police in Dayton, Texas where he lived. Applications came to the city council, and they accepted that of Clark J. Mugrage who was sworn in on August 20, 1965. One month later on September 16, the City Council established an official Humble Police Department with Mugrage as the first Chief of Police.
