The V.90 standard modem protocol is a result of an important International Telecommunications Union (ITU) agreement reached February 6, 1998, enabling all 56K users to access the Internet regardless of their ISP or their modem brand. As a further refinement of the K56flex and X2 modems, V.90 renders faster speeds and interactive capabilities for Internet users. In conjunction with the V.90 upgrade, better V.34 support will be offered for all 33.6K or lower modems. Many existing 56K modems can be upgraded to V.90 with a simple software upgrade.
