Description

With regards to responsibility of the industry, maintaining the very highest standards of food quality and safety is a core value of IFM member companies. Because of consumer sensitivity and general concern for safety, infant food production has always been the most strictly regulated sector of the food industry. More on quality control and safety procedures: IFM member companies possess state-of-the-art laboratories, facilities and systems. Laboratories, factories and distribution centers undergo regular audits to ensure that consistent quality and safety levels are maintained.

Microbiologically safe milk-based powders for infant nutrition were first manufactured in 1867. Over time, advances in research and technology allowed infant formula manufacturers to create products with nutritional profiles that are closer to the natural standard, the human breast milk. Furthermore, recent products aim to reproduce the microbiological effects and hypoallergenic property of breast milk. Today IFM member companies invest an estimated 3% to 4% of their annual turnover on research and development.

The International Association of Infant Food Manufacturers was founded in 1984. Its members work together to protect and promote the nutritional health of infants (up to 1 year) and young children (from 1 to 3 years). Nutrition products designed to respond to dietary requirements are an important contribution to the health of infants and young children.

Our vision is to be recognized as the industry association leader working with other stakeholders as a trusted partner to improve infant and young child nutrition globally. IFM is a member of the Federation of International Special Dietary Food Industries (ISDI), a federation representing manufacturers of special dietary foods. Within this association, IFM represents the special branch of infant foods.

IFM, the International Infant Food Manufacturers Association, was founded on February 23, 1984 in Paris, France. Since 2009, it has been operating out of Geneva. IFM is a non-profit organization representing the leading global manufacturers of nutritional products for infants and young children.
