IPEDS Data Collection System The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) is a comprehensive, interactive, web-based data collection system. It was developed for the U.S. Department of Education as the core postsecondary education survey data collection program for the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). IPEDS is a system of surveys designed to collect data from all primary providers of postsecondary education. It encompasses all institutions and educational organizations whose primary purpose is to provide postsecondary education. Data Analysis System (DAS) The Data Analysis System (DAS) is a Web-based tool that allows the user to produce tables and correlation matrices from NCES student base longitudinal studies in postsecondary education. Studies available through this system such as NPSAS and B&B contain restricted data. This is why the system doesn’t give any raw data, it only gives statistics. Users are forced to choose a weight when they want to produce a table or correlation matrix. Since the output is sample statistics, the system will generate with every table the standard errors and weighted sample sizes for every estimate in the table. Standard errors are produced by using one of three methods: Balance Replicate Weight (BRR), Jacknife I, and Jacknife II. What determines the statistical methods used is the method by which the replicate weights in the data set were determined. http://nces.ed.gov/dasol IPEDS College Opportunities Online The IPEDS College Opportunities Online system allows a Web-based direct link to nearly 7,000 colleges and universities in the United States. The system was developed for the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). It helps college students, future students, and their parents understand the differences between colleges and how much it costs to attend college. The system provides statistics about Enrollment, Awards/Degree Conferred, Financial Aid, Graduation Rates, Accreditation, and Campus Crime. http://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cool Equity in Athletics System The Equity in Athletics System is a Web-based system developed for the Office of Postsecondary Education of the U.S. Department of Education to provide direct link to data reported by nearly 2,000 colleges and universities in the United States that participate in the Federal student aid programs and have intercollegiate athletic programs. It was authorized by Congress with the 1998 amendments to the Higher Education Act of 1965 (HEA) to help prospective students and their families research athletic opportunities on various college campuses. Under the HEA, the Secretary of Education is required to collect financial and statistical information on men's and women's intercollegiate sports and make it available to the public. The system provides statistics about Participants and Operating Expenses, Coaching Staff, Revenues and Expenses, and Coaches Salaries.
