IT LOGISTIX

Description

Why does it take volumes of whitepapers, specialized books, resource kits, blog references and the intelligence to put it all together to do some of the simplest tasks? After spending days or weeks researching the steps involved to setup a cluster, install an 802.1x wireless network, deploy operating systems with Windows Deployment Services (WDS) or System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) or any of the 100 other tasks that lead me to a technical document or whitepaper, I am often perplexed at how simple the process actually is to execute. In fact, it is amazing how quickly you can explain the process to others once this research has been done. It begs the question, “Why aren’t the technical documents more helpful and less wordy?” I’ve concluded that this may be due to the influence of technical writers, product marketing, the pressure to document a process before has RTM, or perhaps in many cases the document writers are just researchers with no practical experience. So I guess it is up to the technical community to weed through the jargon and marketing flare and provide direction to those that are just getting started. It has certainly saved me, countless hours of research to find the links and answers to some of the most fundamental questions about a product or it’s implementation. Having said that, I will make an effort to post information that is complete and concise. I think you can cover most subjects well in two pages or less (w/out pictures of course).
