Our business, Images 802, and our collection of handcrafted engraved slate products got its start in a rather serendipitous way. When my laser was installed in July 1997, I started a commercial custom engraving business doing corporate gifts and the like for several companies. Fascinated by the technology, my wife was curious about what else this laser could do. Being an avid gardener, she went down to the stream near our house and picked a fern. We scanned the fern into the laser software and watched in amazement as the light beam burned the exact image of the fern into a piece of wood. The detail was incredible! She then went out in the yard and picked a maple leaf. Again, incredible. Before you knew it, a new business was born! We experimented with different materials to get the look we wanted and found Vermont green slate to be the most natural and pleasing. Taking a leap of faith, we began selling wholesale to gift shops all over the Northeast and as far away as Arizona. People responded very positively to the natural images and soft green color of the slate. I thought I'd take a shot at selling retail directly to the public and started exhibiting at craft shows during the summer and fall. People kept asking me all the time if we had a website where they could order more Images 802 products. And at long last, here it is! I hope you enjoy our slate creations for years to come.
