Description

Index Fresh began in 1914 as Index Orchards with the goal of packing and marketing lemons and oranges from Orange County, California. Initially formed as a grower owned corporation, Index became a cooperative in 1929 under the name of Index Mutual Association. Citrus was the primary product until the 1950’s when avocados were introduced into the product line with the absorption of sister cooperative, United Avocado Growers. As the avocado industry began to flourish, avocados replaced citrus as Index’s primary product in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
