Description
We are looking for you! We would like to ask the help of you and your baby. The information you provide will help us detect and assess babies with vision problems. One aspect of vision that changes during infancy is sensitivity. Sensitivity is the ability to detect very dim flashes of light. We are studying this change by measuring small electrical signals produced by the eye in response to a video display of flickering patches of light. This test is called the Multifocal ERG. To begin the test, a drop is put in each eye to dilate the pupil. The dilating drops take 30 minutes to become effective. Anesthetic drops will be used to numb the surface of the eye and a special contact lens will then be placed on your child's eye. Your child will be positioned so that he/she can look at a video monitor with a flickering hexagonal pattern. The special contact lens picks up the eye's responses and provides a map of the integrity of the retina...
