Information Systems International, Incorporated began operations in December of 1988 when two IBM employees, Dee Sondergard and Michael Ellis, left IBM to start an IBM Agent firm. Because of their successes at IBM in selling the MAPICS software package, selling and supporting MAPICS became the focus of the new company along with a relatively new hardware platform, the IBM Application System/400 or AS/400.Through the years, IBM made changes to its Business Partner programs, eventually eliminating the Agent program. ISI naturally made changes in its business to accomodate the changing relationship with IBM. Despite the changes, ISI remained focused on its manufacturing sector customers and on quality support, education and implementation services to complement MAPICS.Later, IBM sold its MAPICS business to the MARCAM Corporation which began an even more agressive development and marketing plan for MAPICS. ISI continued its relationship with IBM, selling AS/400 hardware and services, mostly to complement its growing base of MAPICS customers. In addition, ISI also bacame a MARCAM affiliate to serve its MAPICS customers located mostly in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin.
