The International Foundation for Retirement Education (InFRE) was founded in 1997 in response to America's impending "retirement crisis". The "baby boom" generation is nearing retirement; there is a shift away from employer-funded retirement plans; our national savings rate is lower than it has ever been; fundamental changes are underway or foreseen in the Social Security and Medicare systems, crises are occurring in the business world undermining confidence in pension plans. The confluence of these factors is making the jobs of retirement counselors and administrators increasingly difficult and complex - while at the same time increasingly more important. As a result, we are facing a potentially huge national problem. Moreover, many of the individuals who today are advising the American worker on how to achieve a financially secure retirement have not been specifically trained and equipped to deal with these issues. Finally, these professionals have not had access to quality educational materials so they can properly educate their employees and clients. That's why InFRE, together with the leading financial planning university, Texas Tech, is dedicated to providing credible retirement certifications.
