Intelect Medical was founded in April 2005 by Cleveland Clinic around the work of Dr. Ali Rezai, Chairman of the Clinic's Center for Neurological Restoration, to develop and commercialize the Clinic's neuromodulation therapy and device technologies. The Clinic has amassed a large portfolio of intellectual property covering new concepts for neuromodulation therapies and devices to treat conditions ranging from stroke to acute heart failure. Intelect Medical is the exclusive licensee of these therapies and device concepts. Our company mission is to restore a better way of life for brain injury patients. Intelect's initial focus is on neuromodulation for the promotion of recovery from traumatic brain injury (TBI) and stroke. Current treatment for TBI is largely supportive - preventing infections and maintaining the patient's physical state. An approved IDE for neuromodulation of patients in a minimally conscious state has allowed us to begin clinically testing this novel therapy. We have also begun animal studies on deep brain stimulation therapies for post-stroke motor function rehabilitation.
