Interstate 35 Telephone Company began in September of 1965 as an Independent Telephone Company serving local telephone service to the communities of Truro and St. Charles, and they added the town of St. Marys six years later, in 1971. In 1978, the telephone communities of Emerson, Henderson, and Imogene, in southwestern Iowa were purchased and Southwest Telephone Exchange was formed. Recently the company underwent a name change to now be known as Interstate Communications.
