Description

Our History Iowa House is an architecturally-unique former fraternity house, built in 1924. The present 13 room, newly renovated inn was created to accommodate guests with an appreciation of history and a taste for quiet elegance; however, today’s hi-tech needs have not been overlooked. Susan Lassila owned and operated the first Iowa House from 1993-2000 on Gray Ave. The newly established Iowa House will continue to provide a high level of service and warmth that cannot be matched. Our Location Located in a quiet, historical, residential neighborhood with maximum accessibility to Iowa State University, IOWA HOUSE combines convenience, beauty, spaciousness, and nostalgia with a warm welcome--hospitality in the spirit of the state of Iowa. Our Architecture Iowa House is a brick building featuring a double façade facing Hayward Avenue and Knapp Street. The steeply pitched, complex hip roof is intersected by lower gables. Its porte-cochere (covered coach entry) featuring a front gable roof is a unique feature among the many historic fraternity and sorority residences in Ames.
