I-Renew board members chat during a break in a policy meeting held in August 2007 at the Conard Environmental Research Area near Grinnell. The Iowa Renewable Energy Association (I-Renew) is a membership-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to educating Iowans about renewable energy. Founded in 1992, I-Renew has sponsored hands-on workshops on installing solar and wind systems, powered the State Fair, schools, and events with the Solar Traveler, our mobile renewable energy demonstration unit, and hosted our annual Energy Expo, the area's largest event dedicated to renewable energy and energy efficiency. In addition to educational activities, we also partner with other non-profit groups in the state to support new policies encouraging renewable energy development. We also work with policy makers, government agencies, and individuals to implement renewable energy programs. Our members have played a major role in making Iowa a national leader in renewable energy. I-Renew depends on member support for its educational programs. Members receive discounts to I-Renew workshops, a membership gift, a copy of the Iowa Sustainable Energy Sourcebook, and a subscription to Energy Matters, our quarterly newsletter featuring the latest news in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
