Description
I think it was best said by a reviewer from the Boston Globe when The Pogues performed at Symphony Hall. He said "the only way to describe them is a cross between the Clancy Brothers and The Sex Pistols." And The Pogues truly are the pioneers of Celtic Punk music, being the first to really bring out this new sound. The music itself is about celebrating a Celtic heritage by covering folk songs and using traditional Celtic instruments in original rock music. Some of these instruments include the tin whistle, banjo, bagpipes, bodhran, and many others. A few of the trends in the songs lyrics are usually about The Republic of Ireland, working class, drinking, fighting and hardships. My name is Seafra (Jeff) and I began the site in early 2002. I grew up on a diverse style of music, but I found myself listening to bands like The Clash, The Ramones, The Pogues, and Irish Folk music more than any other. Throughout the years more and more bands started to come out with this type of sound, they are mostly bands on independent labels with amazing talent. Which means they would never see mainstream radio play. My goal is to build a community to showcase some of these artist and help spread the word. Even though the focus is on Irish Punk music and Celtic culture, we have a lot of different content to keep you entertained . So you can put this site into whatever category you wish. But when you come here we hope you find what you are looking for, if not, let us know and we will get you the name of that obscure band, or information on upcoming tours. We are always looking to improve and build a large community with information. So if you have any feedback be sure to let us know. And to those of you that support this site, we thank you.
