Description
The Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau represents the city's investment in its tourism infrastructure, a key component of Irving's multi-faceted economic development approach. What the Irving CVB does on a day to day basis, is reach out to the most vital of our industry's influences - meeting planners, travel managers, traveling groups, the media, and individual consumers. Unlike many traditional convention and visitors bureaus, the Irving CVB is not a membership-based organization. Instead, our funding comes solely from a portion of the city's hotel/motel tax collections; the bureau represents the city's investment and reinvestment in its tourism infrastructure. A department of the City of Irving, the Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau receives 57.5% of the city's 5% hotel tax. The balance of the tax is disbursed among the Irving Arts Center, Historic Preservation and Irving Museum Funds. An additional 2% of hotel tax is collected by the city of Irving, and is dedicated for the funding of the Irving Convention Center as well as an additional 2% for the upcoming performance venue. The Bureau's Executive Director reports to a City Council-appointed Board of Directors whose role is that of a policy-making board. Even without a formal membership base, the Irving CVB works diligently to represent the city's visitor interests and economy through a wide range of programming. By working closely with hotels, restaurants, retailers and industry suppliers, short- and long-term programs are put in place to generate, protect and preserve Irving's economy through visitor investment. The Greater Irving Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce is a separate organization, and many members of the Irving hospitality community are also members of the Chamber. The Chamber of Commerce and the Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau work closely together on many common initiatives throughout the year, however the two organizations are distinct. Both organizations exist to better and preserve Irving's economy - the chamber through generating capital investment via corporate relocation, retention and business support efforts; the Irving CVB through the direct cash infusions made possible by the city's vibrant visitor economy.
