Description
Jean Naggar established her eponymous literary agency in 1978, working out of her apartment, with no staff, no capital and a stable of ten previously unpublished authors. She made the decision to dedicate herself to authors whose work she cared deeply about, and in whose writing careers she found herself personally invested. To this end the agency strives to obtain the strongest deals possible for every client while working tirelessly to ensure that the client receives the best possible long-term outcome from publishing contracts, financial terms, marketing, promotion, and more within a considered reality of the publishing context. Jean's philosophy has always been "I am the author's business partner. And as a partner, and working as I do with a writer, I try from the start to take the long view, and to consider every deal in the context of the author's overall career rather than just as a deal for which I am the broker." In 2004, Jean teamed up with Jennifer Weltz who had been a part of the Agency for 10 years and they incorporated under The Jean V. Naggar Literary Agency, Incorporated or JVNLA, Incorporated for short. The agency has since grown to four full time agents, each with their own independent list. They all work as a team, focusing individually on different aspects of the industry in order to impact and benefit the entire agency list. We believe that this is why the agency has had such sustained visibility and success in the foreign rights area, and in audio, as well as in film and television.
