J & M Homes, L.L.C. was established in the fall of 1995. We are licensed by the State of Alaska as a General Contractor with a Residential Contractor Endorsement. We build only five-star to five-star plus energy rated homes in the Valley that encompasses Wasilla, Palmer and the outlying areas. 2010 marks the 15th successful year that J&M Homes, L.L.C., has been providing quality homes in the Mat-Su Valley area. We have built over 200 homes in that period of time. And each home was and is built with pride and patience to ensure that the homeowner gets exactly what they want. Joe Gilpin, the builder, takes pride in being an on-the-job contractor, making sure of quality craftsmanship by working with his subcontractors and suppliers personally, and handling day-to-day jobsite operations himself. Joe’s primary goal is to provide the highest quality built home possible. We provide in-house computer-aided drafting to allow clients to change our plans or create their own plans suited to their needs. This allows clients to see and change floor plans using 3-D images, placing their furniture in living spaces, and making the necessary changes in the beginning rather than incurring costly change orders after construction has begun. We believe it is important to educate clients to what is behind the finished walls in a quality home built for Alaskan winter conditions. Our standard building practices exceed most practices in the area, such as 14” energy heels in the trusses to allow more insulation where the wall meets the roof (most builders in the area use only 9” energy heels); finishing with foamed rim joists to insure no air movement occurs where the foundation meets the walls; and to standard whole house mechanical ventilation systems using energy recovery ventilators which are absolutely necessary to prevent mold and mildew in airtight built homes.
