James Lockett conducts his professional legal work from the Hanoi, Vietnam office of Baker & McKenzie . He works in complex business, trade, energy and corporate matters and is specialized in issues of International Law. PERSONAL PROFILE James Lockett's career has spanned work both in government service, and in private law firms. Trained as an international lawyer, Mr. Lockett is an American but has lived outside of the U.S. for more than twenty years. He worked from 1983 to 1997 in Brussels, Belgium where he was a partner in a major Wall Street international law firm. From 1998 to 2005, he was based in Washington, D.C., where he worked for the U.S. Government. He then moved to Jakarta, Indonesia to assist the Ministry of Trade for nearly three years. In 2008, he joined the Hanoi, Vietnam office of global law firm Baker & McKenzie , where he continues his international legal practice with that firm. Mr. Lockett is listed in Who's Who In Finance and Industry. He was educated in both the U.S. and the UK, and holds degrees in political science and in law, and a Masters degree in International Law. He has seasoned management experience also, having been managing partner of a law office in Brussels. He currently is Secretary of the Board of Governors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hanoi, is chairman of the Legal Committee of the AmCham Hanoi, and also is a member of its Energy Committee. He has been a visiting lecturer at several universities, including the Masters of European Law program at Stockholm University, and the Masters in International Trade Law program at the University of Indonesia. He is now a visiting lecturer in the law faculty of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam. He is a frequent conference speaker, having addressed legal and business conferences in more than 35 countries.
