Accredited by the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation's Accrediting Commission - The Culinary Arts program at James Rumsey Technical Institute is dedicated to excellence in culinary education and has been designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure successful employment in the industry. The intense 11-month course covers a wide variety of skills and knowledgeable topics. The major units of study span the full spectrum of requirements and functions of and within the industry. The student acquires a comprehensive yet fundamental culinary education which can be successfully applied to all levels of the food service industry. Emphasis is focused on student development and maintenance of necessary positive attitudes and work habits leading to maximum performance and effectiveness upon graduation. Graduates of the program will receive a certificate and are eligible to apply for ACF Certified Culinarian (C.C.) status. Students also have the opportunity to continue their education through Mountain State University and Blue Ridge Community & Technical College.

James Rumsey Technical Institute has served high school students from Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan Counties and adult students from the four state area for over 40 years.

Open enrollment programs designed to provide the skills necessary for many in-demand occupations. Our programs are designed by a team of professionals from each respective field, who work to provide the most effective web-based learning experience available today. Instructors/mentors respond to any questions or concerns, as well as encourage and motivate you to succeed.

Teachers and returning students are planning lessons for the day to provide parents with the opportunity to experience a typical class. Additionally, teachers will be able to provide incoming students some information to help better prepare for the upcoming year. Students and parents may attend “Take Your Parent to School” day on May 29th from either 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM or 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. An RSVP to the teacher of the program would be appreciated.
