I recently viewed the newest Christian movie production, The Nativity Story, with my mother and husband. The acting and cinematography were excellent, and although I thought I new the story line well, I was moved by the screen writer’s portrayal of Mary and Joseph as they struggled to be obedient to God’s call on their lives. What amazed me most in this movie, however, was the visual realization that God choose an old woman (Elizabeth) and a young girl (Mary) to deliver His message of love and reconcilation to the world. Two unlikely candidates that the world would certainly have passed over were used because of their faithfulness and righteousness in the sight of God (Luke 1:6). John the Baptist prepared the way for the “Light of the World” and Jesus’ light continues to shine on all who would receive Him today. God’s ways are rarely our ways, and He uses the weak things in the world to humble those that think they are wise (1 Corinthians 1:27). What hope and encouragement for those of us that feel unvalued by the world. In God’s eyes, we are all “children” of the King with unlimited possibilities.
