Jay Petersen has been independently consulting in the Central Valley since 1995. He grew up in a two room house in Southeast Fresno's Old Armenia Town with his two siblings, while his mother struggled to pay the bills. Jay jokes, "not two bedrooms, two ROOMS TOTAL - the kitchen and 'the room.' Mom slept in 'the room,' so guess where I slept!" Mom saved every penny for Jay's first computer, a Texas Instruments color computer. Thankfully, mom finished college and moved into the middle class, and a good remarriage gave Jay a positive male role model and a better chance for success. At an early age, and by virtue of the primary and secondary schools he attended, he was able to open and interface with computers that typically were not meant to be opened or interfaced with. He started his professional career with Fresno Unified School District as a bilingual instructional aide in the Spanish language, but his school site quickly discovered that computers were having a lot more problems than the students were. Jay’s duties were quickly redefined so that he could support the teachers, administrators and students in the use of their computers. Soon, Jay developed quite a referral base from teachers and administrators who would ask him to come over to their houses or to their spouses’ businesses for computer support. In 2000, after years of being known as “The Geek,” Jay officially formed “The Geeks™ Computer Service” and began to attract clients from all over the Central Valley. The Geeks™ continues to serve the Central Valley's consumer and micro business needs, while the business services division, J. Colin Computing Systems, serves the small to medium sized business market. Thanks to a rigorous commitment to client service, a philosophy of “absolute accountability” (that is, even if it isn’t his fault, it’s his problem) and a reputation built on Mutual Admiration and Respect for the Client, business has been booming ever since. Jay’s client list, at the time of this writing is 11,000 strong and still growing every day, thanks to the support and trust of clients just like you. His clients read like a veritable "Who’s Who" of the Central Valley and include: Popular Radio Stations Service Professionals Sports Team Owners News Anchors Farmers Developers …and even Russell Johnson (“The Professor” from Gilligan’s Island!) Jay proudly serves on the Board of Directors for the Clovis Chamber of Commerce, and was awarded 2010 Small Business of the Year because of his commitment to service and for his contribution to the local economy.
