About James T. Larson Minnesota native Jim Larson has been sculpting for over a quarter century. His formal training includes the study of anatomy at the University of Minnesota, a BFA degree in Sculpture from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and study at the International Student Art Center in Florence, Italy. During his eight year adventure in Italy, he developed a profound relationship with marble, and taught sculpture and drawing at Trinity College and St. Stephen's School in Rome. His work has been featured in over twenty exhibitions, both in the America and Italy. Jim speaks Italian with a Minnesotan accent. He is especially well know for his busts, torsos, and nudes. This reflects his deep study of human anatomy. In the shaping of the material, Jim endeavors to achieve a beautiful and sensual flow that represents the structure of human muscle. Some imaginative people have said that Jim imbues the faces of his human subjects, those that have heads anyway, with a self-assured peacefulness that humorously portrays a kind of inner, secret wisdom Besides sculpting the human form, as well as, plant, animal, and ornamental subjects in both marble and bronze, Larson has executed some amazing architectonic or "landscape" marble sculptures that may be unique, and are way beyond anyone's normal experience. Larson treats his bronze pieces with special patinas that give them a striking look of timeless antiquity. His works appear in a variety of distinguished private, corporate, and governmental collections -- for sure! Jim Larson's large studio is at a major Arabian horse training center in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he is also the facility manager. His own horse, Cricket, is a favorite model. He enjoys riding Cricket almost daily, and Cricket likes it too.
