er - John is a graduate of Burlington High School and the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1977. His first public accounting job was at a small Boston accounting firm where he worked for six years. Eventually, he found his way back to Burlington where, after working at a local accounting firm, John set out on his own. "I enjoy meeting with different clients and learning about their lives. As their accountant I must get to know them in order to offer any advice. In fact, I believe it is imperative to understand my client's affairs in order to do a quality job. The accountant MUST ask questions and communicate with clients to do good service. It takes more than knowing the tax code to work with clients." In his spare time, John likes to run and ski. He has been active in First Night Burlington over many years, and served on the board of directors for the Burlington Community Health Center and the Key Bank Vermont City Marathon. Bob Hickey - Partner - A native of Binghamton, N.Y., Bob came to accounting after a number of years as an electronics field engineer for two large national corporations, followed as a general manager of a retail group in the Burlington area. He then earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Trinity College of Vermont in 1999. In that year, Bob joined the firm. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Vermont Society of Certified Public Accountants. "I believe that my eclectic background has added a lot to my accounting practice," says Bob. "And what I love most about accounting, aside from getting to know hundreds of clients, is the ability to apply a very high level of precision to the work. It's enormously satisfying." Bob lives in South Burlington with his wife Laurie, and their children Brenna and Pat. In his free time he enjoys alpine skiing, bicycling and repairing anything that may need fixing. Sherry Allard - CPA - A resident of Milton, Sherry has been involved in and passionate about accounting for almost as long as she has with her favorite pastime- horses. She first entered the practice of accounting in1977, working for a regional CPA firm. She started her own practice five years later and ultimately found herself sharing an office suite with John in 1998. For the next ten years they continued to share office space until she decided it was time to sell her practice to John and Bob. She now works on a part time basis because she is not ready for full retirement. "I've always enjoyed the peace and relative tranquility of accounting," Sherry says. "One area of specialty for me over the years, has been with non-profit organizations and small businesses." A dedicated horsewoman, Sherry owns 3 horses Wyatt Cactus (Wyatt), Nugget's Sunrise Surprise (Junior), and WF Hi Velocity (Ralphie). "My knowledge of horses has come in handy helping clients with horse farm tax issues," she says.
