Methods of Printing Kal Pac's methods of printing are Flexography and Rotogravure. Metal Rotogravure plates are generally used when printing process, large solid areas, tight registration,and multiple colors, otherwise Flexographic plates can generally be used. Artwork Options Artwork may be submitted in the following forms: Camera Ready Art Black and White artwork must be 600 DPI or greater and contain traps. Art Supplied on Disk Art may be supplied on a floppy, zip disk or CD and include all necessary fonts, pictures,screens, and spot colors to be used. (Disks are to be Macintosh compatible) see the section: Computer Generated Art for programs to be used *When sending in artwork, please supply a proof or mockup @ 100% or scaled proportionately indicating the color breakdown, size, copy and positioning. Artwork Guidelines Read the following guidelines to determine if art can be printed Metal Rotogravure or Flexographic Metal Rotogravure Guidelines Metal Rotogravure plates are required when: Any design with fine screens, 4 Color Process, halftones and duotones. (Screens of 85 DPI to a maximum of 120 DPI is to be used) A job requires tight registration, fine detail or fonts with thin serifs. A job requires more than 6 colors or is more that 60% ink coverage. Minimums are as follows: positive line weight of 1 pt., reverse rule of 2pts., positive type of 6 pts., reverse type of 10 pts. with no fine serifs, TM or ® 6 pts. positive - 10 pts. reverse Flexographic Guidelines Flexographic plates can be used when: A line screen of no more than 55 DPI is used @ 40% dot size or less, no vignettes. (When using flexographic plates for screens, some areas may appear mottled) 1 to 6 Colors is used and the coverage does not exceed 60%. Tight traps and registration are NOT required. Minimums are as follows: positive line weight of 1.5 pt., reverse rule of 3pts., positive type of 6 pts., reverse type of 12 pts. with no fine serifs, TM or ® 8 pts. positive - 12 pts. reverse Requirements of all Flexographic and Metal Rotogravure Printing The following applies to all flexographic and metal rotogravure printing Traps of NO LESS than 4 points are required. A stay away border between colors is to be NO LESS than 4 points. When 2 or more colors are trapped, a third color may appear.
