Keep Denton Beautiful, Incorporated is a community-based volunteer organization that has gone through several transformations to become what it is today. In 1987, the Denton City Council created a Blue Ribbon Citizen's Task Force to make recommendations regarding beautification of major city entrances and other city beautification efforts. The task force recommended that the city create a board responsible for making recommendations to the city about issues and ordinances affecting the appearance and the environment of the city, particularly the city’s entryways. As a result, the Beautification Advisory Commission was created in 1991. The name was changed to the Keep Denton Beautiful Board in 1992. In 1996, with the earlier addition of twelve board members, the approval of articles of incorporation in 1995, and the receipt of 501(C)(3) tax-exempt status in 1996, the Keep Denton Beautiful Board became Keep Denton Beautiful, Incorporated In 1996, the Keep Denton Beautiful Board was a 23-member board with 11 Council-appointed members and 12 community-based members. In June 2000, the board voted to become a stand-alone 501(C)(3) and made a legal request to the city of Denton to dissolve the advisory board aspect (council appointments) of the organization. Now, KDB is an all volunteer, non-profit organization that focuses on: - - However, our non-profit organization maintains a close affiliation with the City of Denton. Our paid staff: Aimee Bissett, Program Manager, Jannibah Coleman, Volunteer & Program Coordinator, and Mendie Schmidt, Event & Outreach Coordinator, are City of Denton employees. They are responsible for assisting Keep Denton Beautiful, Incorporated in achieving its mission through the facilitation and coordination of its programs, projects, and events. Keep Denton Beautiful, Incorporated is an affiliate member of Keep Texas Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful .
