Kite Telecom is a premier provider of Voice Over IP (VOIP) service both to residential end customers, as well as small and medium businesses and multi-site enterprises. VOIP allows you to make telephone calls using a computer network, over a data network like the Internet. VOIP converts the voice signal from your telephone into a digital signal that travels over the internet then converts it back at the other end so you can speak to anyone with a regular phone number. When placing a VOIP call using a phone with an adapter, you'll hear a dial tone and dial just as you always have. The adapter automatically connects your call through the internet, to the destination phone (through a gateway or switch, not shown). Your voice is digitally converted and transferred over the internet. In addition, callers that dial the phone number programmed into the adapter will be put through to your phone in the same way. With VOIP, neither party is aware that the call is being routed through the internet, it just seems like a normal telephone call has occurred.
