The firm began on November 1, 1972, when James R. "Jimmy" Knight and Stephen K. Griffith formed the partnership. The firm's office has remained in the Griffith Building in downtown Cullman since its inception. Over the years, the firm has grown to include three other partners and became known as Knight, Griffith, McKenzie, Knight & McLeroy, LLP in 2004.Jimmy Knight has practiced law for more than 40 years, beginning as a sole practitioner when he was 24 years old. Always a strong advocate for his clients, Jimmy has also been active in politics for many years. Jimmy has served as chairman of the Alabama Democratic Party and president of the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association.Steve Griffith, who comes from a family of lawyers and judges, began practicing in 1968 and later joined Jimmy Knight in what has become a uniquely long-running law partnership which has been successful and well known. Steve serves on the Alabama Board of Bar Commissioners and has served on the Alabama Bar Association's Executive Council.
