Description
Our primary mission is to provide at-risk young adults and school-aged youth with opportunities for success through job skills training, education and work experience with an emphasis on conservation and service projects that benefit the community. The LA Conservation Corps was founded in 1986 by former U.S. Secretary of Commerce and Trade Ambassador Mickey Kantor.
The LA Conservation Corps was founded in 1986 to provide 18- to 24- year olds with a high school diploma program and paid on-the-job-training and support services through the Young Adult Corps. Today, our longest-running youth and workforce development program serves approximately 500 18- to 24-year-old corpsmembers each year.
The SEA Lab is a hands-on coastal science education center in Redondo Beach that offers free and low cost programs for explorers of all ages. The site was originally founded in 1974 as the Edison Marine Research Laboratory to develop a state-of-the-art fish protection system - the very one still in use today at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. Twenty years later, Southern California Edison, together with Earth Island Institute, decided to convert the site into a coastal science education center.
By partnering with the Corps, you receive double the benefit of improving environmental quality today while creating culturally diverse stewards to care for our environment tomorrow. LA Conservation Corps participants can successfully implement a wide range of conservation projects for our partner organizations. The Corps has extensive experience in restoration implementation, invasive vegetation removal, trail building and maintenance, landscaping, and plant propagation. These projects also teach our corpsmembers the importance of conservation and environmental stewardship.
Lisa Morris Contract Compliance Officer Lisa joined LA Conservation Corps in February 2011 with over 15 years of nonprofit and legal experience. She is responsible for ensuring the Corps complies with legal and contractual requirements. Lisa also provides oversight for quality assurance and serves as liaison for the Board of Directors on audit-related matters. During her career, Lisa has worked with a number of nonprofits providing health care, child care, housing, and job training to underserved communities.
