A fundraiser and membership drive banquet hosted by the Lakeview Booster Club is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Lake County Fairgrounds. Games will begin at 5 p.m., while dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. On the menu are tri-tip steak, potato salad, green bean casserole, green salad, bread and dessert. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children (3 to 10 years of age) and children three years and under are admitted for free. Games will include a dunk tank, basketball shoot, reverse 50/50 raffle, rifle raffle, silent auction and both dinner door prize and membership drawings. Also available is a kid’s corner for children 8 years and under featuring games, face painting and more. The Lakeview Booster Club raises funds in support of varied extracurricular activities in the local schools, which includes sports, student council, band and other activities. “Despite statewide budget cuts, Lakeview has been able to maintain our sports (programs) partly due to the Booster Club and partly due to the school’s (successful) management,” said Pres. Les Boothe. “It’s a worthwhile cause, and I hope people will come out.” According to Boothe, the club has contributed more than $100,000 in the last four years to Fund 299, which supports youth activities. The club has also provided more than $35,000 in varied special projects. These projects range from the high school track resurfacing project to equestrian team stall fees, new chairs in Honker Court, football dummies, a new wrestling mat, support for FFA state and national convention and a new scoreboard for Honker Court. Future efforts in the works include a new sound system for Honker Court, a scoreboard for Daly Field, a trophy case and championship banners for Honker Court, an indoor hitting facility for the baseball and softball programs and additional efforts in the weight room. The club also manages concession stand operations each year, which raises about $10,000 to $15,000 annually. Honker clothing apparel is another element of Booster Club efforts, Boothe said. Membership packages are available in varied tiers, Boothe said, including the ‘bronze’ level, which is $25, all the way up to the ‘lifetime’ tier, which is for donors of $1,000 or more. At this level, the donor’s name is included on the ‘Wall of Fame’ at Honker Court. ‘Silver’ donor packages include an adult season pass to all home sports events, while the ‘gold’ package includes a family/business pass to all home sports events (excludes LHS students for admission).
