LaPrairie Township Mutual Insurance Company was formed in 1874 in LaPrairie, Saratoga and Steuben townships of Marshall County in Illinois. It was organized by farmers of these townships, who were having problems buying fire insurance at the time. LaPrairie Mutual has grown from the original three townships to thirty-nine counties during the company ’s 125-year history. This territory growth was made possible by changes in the Farm Mutual Act. At the close of the first year of business fifty-nine policies had been issued with insurance in force of $81,725. As of December 31, 2004, LaPrairie Mutual had 2952 policies issued with insurance in force of $725,021,683. Wilson Insurance Agency in Henry was the only agency representing LaPrairie Mutual in 1960. There are now nine agencies representing the company.
