This is not a maker you hear much about but the quality is right up there with the best. See Tran Duy Ly's "Longcase Clocks" book for illustrations of this company's movements, dials and cases. The Charles Korfhage company was located on 12 Dutch Street in New York City from 1877 through the early 1900's. I purchased this clock directly from the family that had owned it since it was purchased on July 6th, 1903 and it comes with some documentation about its history. It has been wonderfully cared for all these years and is just about perfect in all respects. Solid mahogany case, brass and silvered dial . Original hands, pendulum, weights, door key, winding key - everything is there. The only flaw is some bubbling in the veneer on the left side. This is an 8 day clock with two weights but it plays Westminster chimes on the quarter hours on 4 gongs and strikes the hours on a 5th larger gong. Recently serviced and in good running order. 7' 10" tall. Korfhage tall case clock -closeup / hood / dial / base / interior / movement / movement2 / order - $4,200. Clock #8068 English tall case clock by John Lord of Farringdon. Farringdon is in Berkshire, about 15 miles southwest of Oxford. He is listed as working from 1784-97 and his son is listed for 1830. This is a very nice clock with some quality features indicating it was made for an upscale market. The case has been nicely refinished and is made with figured mahogany with matching panels on the door and base. The feet should be replaced but it is otherwise in very good condition. There are reeded columns on the side and hood and they are fitted with polished brass stopfluting. The dial has been repainted. Both hands are old but slightly mismatched. The previous owner had the seatboard replaced because it was weakened by woodworm but it is the original movement for this case. This is an 8 day clock with bell strike . It has been recently serviced and is in good running order. 7' 3" tall. English tall case clock by John Lord -closeup / dial / hood / base / closeup2 / closeup3 / movement / order - $3,600. Clock #8065 American tall clock - case only- in as found condition. This case might not be worth any restoration effort but for the fact that it is American. The backboard is heavy, thick and of typical American construction. The base wood is walnut with matching figured mahogany facings for the door and base. Somehow it has managed to keep the original feet. It has a panel of birdseye maple below the waist door and reeded side columns. There are numerous veneer and shrinkage issues and the left molding below the waist is a poor replacement. Note that the hood does NOT match the rest. It is a fairly close fit but it is from another period clock. It is missing the right column and the crest . The period, iron 13" dial that came with the clock has a bit of flaking. 7' 9" tall and 19" wide at the base.
