This sector makes up the heart of LEI's services. We use our laser technology to laser mark or process our customers' components or materials. A customer is able to quickly gain the benefits of laser marking or materials processing without having to wait for capital equipment to be delivered, or to hire, train and bring online this specialized technology. The company is currently focused on our new laser marking service which is dedicated to marking ceramic chip capacitors and resistors (surface mounted devices, or "SMDs") manufactured by the microelectronics industry. This service is available at LEI's headquarters, with laser systems designed, engineered and built by LEI. The company is expanding the laser marking and laser materials processing capacity for drilling holes, etching, cutting, scribing, surface modifying and cleaning its customers parts, covering a wide variety of industries using its leading edge laser technology.

LEI's “PSLM” Laser Systems provide turnkey laser processing solutions to our customers. This part of our business brings together all of our collective technological strengths. PSLM stands for “Process Specific Laser Machine,” a laser system consisting of a laser, an optical beam delivery system, part handling system, computer interface, system diagnostics, intelligent vision and enclosure. To date, the company has three different laser marking systems: the PSLM-900 UltraMark™, the PSLM-1000 UltraMark™, and our newest system, the PSLM-1100 UltraMark™ SMD Laser Marking System. LEI builds systems for custom laser production liens, as well as for product lines the company determines to be strategically important to its success.

This is where our customer relationship begins. Our customer engages us to determine if their material can be marked, cleaned, cut, drilled, surface modified, etched, scribed, etc. This laser laboratory service supports a customer's need for the evaluation of the laser interaction with their component or material and provides a first pass feasibility test to see if there is viability to their request. Our laser application labs are designed to allow our scientists to utilize Alexandrite, Excimer and Nd:YAG lasers to test samples and to develop the laser process.

Wayne Armstrong - Senior Vice President of Engineering - Mr. Armstrong has been associated with LEI since December 1997 in various capacities. Prior to joining LEI, Mr. Armstrong, in his highly successful and lengthy career, held numerous technical and management positions at ITT AES Division, Loral Control System, Ford Aerospace Aeronutronic Division and Hughes Missile Systems. As a result of these experiences Mr. Armstrong has made significant technical contributions to complex projects, managed many state-of-the-art programs, created many inventions, planned and executed start-up operations, guided business development of company sectors and managed large organizations. Mr. Armstrong is experienced in R&D, LRIP and high and low volume production at the individual contributor level through executive management. Mr. Armstrong received his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA).
