The first Lawrence Photo store was opened in Wichita, Kansas in 1888 as a local drug store. The owner, Charles Lawrence, carried a small line of photographic equipment. Lawrence had the first Kodak franchise west of the Mississippi which was signed by Kodak’s founder, George Eastman. After the turn of the century, the drug store became a full line photo supply store. In 1970 Charles Hoag a professional photographer and studio owner in North Central Kansas since 1950, joined the Lawrence Photo staff. Lawrence Photo & Video of Springfield was opened in July of 1973 with Charles Hoag as the manager and only three employees. The operation continued to grow and expand and outgrew it’s location.
