Leenthrop Farmers Mutual Insurance Company was started as a Minnesota Township Mutual Fire Insurance Company in 1886 serving Leenthrop, Sparta & Granite Falls township’s in Chippewa County Minnesota. The first company bylaws were printed in Swedish, Norwegian & English. In it’s first year in business the Company issued 140 policies with the first policy being issued to a resident of Leenthrop township which insured $400.00. Today, more than 100 years later, it serves 300 township’s in Western & Southwest Minnesota from it’s Home Office in Montevideo, Minnesota. Presently, the Company has in excess of 1,650 policies in force and insures property for more than $600 million of insurance in force. Leenthrop Farmers Mutual Insurance Company partners with North Star Mutual and Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company to offer a complete farm package policy and homeowners policy for farmers & homeowners, through independent agents, throughout the operating territory.
