In 1980 Mr. Lewis Interned for Ralph Nader in Washington DC as secretary of Public Citizen. Public Citizen is a help organization for the protection of consumers and promotes the creation of better and safer products.Mr. Lewis began his insurance career 1981 with Hart and Lewis, a large Commercial and Personal Lines agency in Beverly Hills established in 1949, which later became Lewis and Lewis in 1983. In 1981, inspired by his experience in Washington DC with consumer affairs, Mr. Lewis developed his original Annual Mexican Tourist Auto Insurance program. Because the Mexican Auto Insurance rates and coverage limits were regulated by the Mexican Government, it was very expensive when purchased individually. Mr. Lewis used groups (like the Club Vagabundos del Mar) of travelers for statistical purposes and employed the concept that these groups should be considered as one commercial account. The result was a new product which provided annual insurance for a 14 day charge. Initially, this program serviced the Club Vagabundos del Mar; Mexico West Travel Club; The Cholla Bay Sportsman Club; the Clubs Deportivo; and later Discover Baja Travel Club. This product dramatically reduced the cost of Mexican Tourist Auto Insurance to consumers and after 10 years it was a major catalyst toward the deregulation of the Mexican Insurance Market. Over time the program expanded and new concepts of insurance were introduced. The coverage is absolutely superior and protects tens of thousands of Mexican Tourists from all over the world each year.Worked in association with Marsh & McLennan Companies to develop the Group Medical Insurance plan for member businesses of the Beverly Hills Chamber.
