Living Bank, established in 1968, is an independent non-profit public interest foundation. We are not engaged in any aspect of organ, tissue, bone or eye procurement and/or transplantation activities and do not benefit from processing, service or other fees from these activities. We receive no government grants or subsidies.Living Bank is the oldest and largest organ donor education organization in the United States, and the only national organ donor registry that keeps computerized records of organ donor data for future retrieval in an emergency.Organ Procurement Organizations, which are federally-franchised, actually procure donor organs by sending surgical teams into hospitals to take the organ transplant while the recipient waits.
