Description
Lompoc Valley Medical Center is fully licensed by the State of California Department of Health Services and accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Other accreditations include the College of American Pathologist (Laboratory), American Association of Blood Banks (Blood Bank) and American College of Radiology (Radiology) The Medical Staff is composed of 104 qualified, licensed physicians who adhere to the strict medical standards of the State of California and Lompoc Valley Medical Center. Eighty-eight percent (88%) of these staff members have had additional training and are board certified in their specialty area. These physicians represent a broad spectrum of specialties and subspecialties, ensuring that, except in a few cases where highly specialized care is needed, patients will not have to seek medical care far from home. Lompoc Valley Medical Center was the first operating healthcare organization established in California and was created in 1946 by the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors. The District now includes a modern, 60-bed, general acute care hospital and a 110-bed skilled nursing facility. Together, these facilities provide a vast array of quality inpatient and outpatient services, health promotion and maintenance programs, as well as geriatric long-term care for District residents. Lompoc Valley Medical Center is comprised of two facilities located in the City of Lompoc. The acute hospital is a 60-bed facility offering emergency, critical care, obstetrical, medical-surgical, and surgical services to the community. The Convalescent Care Center is a 110-bed long term care and skilled nursing facility. The Medical Center provides services to all residents of the district from newborns to geriatric, birth through end-of-life. The Medical Center has an elaborate method of assessing the needs of the residents and patients from physical assessments that follow appropriate nursing and medical standards to external surveys to assess the future needs of the community. The scope and complexity of care provided ranges from emergent and critical care to maintaining the activities of daily living. These services are provided 24 hours per day 7 days a week. Both the acute and CCC facilities are staffed with appropriate licensed professionals to meet the needs of the patients and residents requiring services. When appropriate, staff may be placed on call to enable them to remain at home or in the area and at the same time respond as needing. All practice guidelines are jointly established with physicians and clinical staff and finally approved by the medical staff prior to implementation. The District complies with all state and federal guidelines as well as Joint Commission Standards.
