Longacre has evolved over the years since its inception in 1975. The program's name has gone from Longacre Farm, to Longacre, an outdoor leadership experience, to our recent favorite, Longacre Leadership Program. Despite this and other changes, our philosophy and intention have remained consistent. Every summer we gather a group of kids and adults and actively build a community together. Longacre still teaches the value and joy of hard work with good friends. We try to model direct and open communication, when your first instincts are telling you not to "risk" it. We all continue to learn the value of emotional risks. The community explores the potential for each one of us to contribute in a way that has meaning. As individuals, we get to learn something special about us--because a friend is willing to name that truth. Longacre, the finest of the summer teen leadership camps, provides an exciting opportunity to make friends with teens from diverse backgrounds, take leadership roles in the community, and learn more about open, honest communication. We promote personalized attention and respect for each individual. Spending the summer at Longacre, a farm based leadership camp, provides growth opportunities and builds confidence.
