We specialize in offering knowledgeable landscape and garden maintenance services to homeowners and small commercial buildings! We provide custom service for many different landscape situations. Many of our customers already have a beautiful, well-maintained landscape and need an expert horticulturist to provide on-going maintenance and monitoring for problems. Some of our new customers have an overgrown landscape in desperate need of a complete clean-up and pruning. Others wish their yard looked nice but don’t know what to do or where to start. We also provide service to those who just need seasonal help. Your landscape is a valuable part of your home investment. We specialize in designing and constructing a landscape that is customized to your aesthetic desires as well as the level of maintenance you are comfortable with in the years to come. We operate our business in Lawrence, KS and provide service to a much larger geographical area. Our beautiful company owned display gardens are open to potential customers and charity groups by an appointment basis. Our display gardens are utilized in different ways. You can view the garden to see "what the plant will look like in your landscape when mature". We grow and propagate all types of plant material and are able to them sell at a reasonable price. We also use the garden for experimentation with new plants unknown to the area. (USDA climate zone 5b-6a). The coldest temperature we have experienced at the gardens is -14F, December 9, 2005 and -16F on Jan 9-10th, 2010. Our most recent successful and exciting trial plants to survive these temperatures are Hardy Banana (Musa Basjoo), Hardy Needle palm (Rhapidophyllum hystrix) and Evergreen Southern Magnolia (Magnolia Grandiflora 'Bracken's Brown Beauty').

Q. Will a rain garden provide a breeding ground for mosquitoes? A. No. A properly designed rain garden will drain before mosquitoes can reproduce. It takes 10-14 days for a mosquito to develop from an egg into an adult. The rain gutters on your home are more likely to provide a better breeding ground than a rain garden. Q. Do all rain gardens have a wild and messy appearance? A. No. Rain gardens do have a natural rather than a manicured appearance, but they need not look messy. You can keep a rain garden looking neat and attractive by keeping the edges well defined. Taller plants often have a more unkempt appearance; so use shorter plants if you want your garden to have a cleaner look. Q. Would a rain garden cause flooding in my basement? A. Not if they are properly located and designed. Rain gardens should be located at least 10 feet away from buildings so that water does not drain along foundations. Also, your rain garden should drain away from rather than toward buildings. Q. Would I need to water my rain garden during dry periods? A. Maybe. How much water your rain garden needs will depend on the plants you choose.
