LSSI was founded in 1867 and is the largest statewide social services provider in Illinois, providing over 190 programs at 85 program sites across Illinois.

In Illinois alone, immigrant families account for close to 30 percent of the population — a multicultural melting pot that grows by more than 35,000 individuals a year. Statistics from the Illinois Coalition of Immigrant and Refugee Rights show that almost 700,000 Mexican immigrants call Illinois home; the next largest groups of newcomers are Polish, Indian, Filipino and Chinese, with many living in and around Chicago. LSSI has long recognized that providing social services that truly reach all community members begins with finding common ground. Speaking the native language of clients starts the conversation, and it’s one — or two or three or many — that LSSI offers through multi-lingual services. Bilingual and bicultural staff ensures that nothing gets lost in translation, whether LSSI is helping families in the foster care system, educating pre-schoolers in Head Start, or counseling patients who are struggling with substance abuse or mental health issues.

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois works to meet the needs of seniors and adults who need comfortable, affordable and accessible housing. We own some properties manage others. We strive to provide a home-like atmosphere in all of our residences.
