Macculloch Hall Historical Museum is both a historic house and a museum of fine and decorative arts. Serving as a prominent family's residence for five generations, the Old House saw its share of politicians, military heroes, business entrepreneurs, and artists. As a fine and decorative arts museum, Macculloch Hall uses one of the finest collections in New Jersey to represent the development of design, technique, and aesthetic taste of America and England in the 18th and early 19th century. The W. Parsons Todd Collection In 1949, Morristown resident and philanthropist W. Parsons Todd acquired Macculloch Hall directly from the family with the intentions of preserving the local landmark and opening the house as a showcase for his collection of 18th and 19th century American and English fine and decorative arts. This collection, acquired mostly in the 1950s, features the finest available from his favorite auction houses in New York.Presented in ten period rooms, the Todd Collection features significant holdings of English china, Oriental carpets, Georgian glass, and examples of furniture designs by Chippendale, Hepplewhite, and Sheraton. Other pieces from the collection are often included in four galleries dedicated to changing exhibits.
